With Highway 602 just past Bone Road now repaired where the roadway collapsed last year, work has begun on a second section where it passes over a creek known as the Rainy River tributary.
Dorothy Sharp, of T&K Sharp Construction, said the deteriorating culvert under the road needed to be replaced.
T&K Sharp Construction won the tender and now is in the process of replacing both the Wolf Creek and the Highway 602 culverts with bridges.
The Wolf Creek bridge near Emo was put in last year, so the company is now finishing taking the culvert out and cleaning up.
They also have to install erosion control to make it more habitable for the fish.
“We dug out the other culvert [from Wolf Creek] and it had an engraving on it from 1939 Kings Hwy., at the one at Wolf Creek,” noted Sharp.
“So it [from Highway 602] would be in the late ’30s that it was put in, and basically the structure has gotten old and is failing.
“We are replacing it with a bridge structure,” she explained.
Sharp said the dirt will be removed and the old culvert will come out, with the new bridge going in between Aug. 9 and 30.
“The piling is in and that supports the new bridge, but everything will start after the ninth,” she noted.
Afterwards, the culvert will be dug out and then the 42-metre bridge will be placed on top of the piles.
Terry Sharp said they are pleased with how the projects are coming along.
“Wolf Creek is going pretty well, the removal of dirt is pretty much done there,” he remarked.
“I think we’re definitely on schedule.
“We’re really appreciative . . . the majority of the public has been exceptional with understanding when there’s flagging going on,” he added.
“We’re very, very happy with them. They’ve respected our signs and there’s been no damage . . . the public’s been exceptional.
“The project’s going along very nicely,” Sharp reiterated.
