High school dealing with leaky ceiling

Several classrooms in the old Westfort portion of the new Fort Frances High School have been getting a little wet lately due to a leaky roof.
“They’ve re-roofed a part of the old school and there’s a leak where water is draining down through to the old roof and then coming out at a spot different from that of the leak,” FFHS principal Terry Ellwood this yesterday morning.
The drainage has seeped into the ceiling tiles of a few classrooms, as well as above the west stairwell, but Ellwood noted the damage was not severe.
“Classrooms are still being used,” he said.
Although the leak was discovered several weeks ago after a major downpour, consistently poor weather since has prevented repair crews from doing any major work.
Ellwood reasoned that while the leak was unfortunate, he didn’t see it as unusual in this instance.
“When you add on to an old building, you always get those kinds of problems that you don’t find out about until later,” he said. “They’re working on it now and it will be fixed as soon as possible.”
