The town will be on the search for a new manager of Operations and Facilities, as Pat Hickerson, the man currently in the position, will be moving back to B.C.
“I’m going to work for another consulting firm in Vernon, B.C.,” said Hickerson on Friday, when asked why he was moving.
“That’s what I was doing before I came back here. I was working in the North Okanagan Valley, Salmon Arm, as a consulting engineer, doing a lot of municipal work,” he added. “So I’ll be doing that again.”
Hickerson, who was born and raised here, has been living here with his wife, Kelly, and son and daughter Kevan, 14, and Kira, six, since August, 2000. He spent about 20 years living in B.C. before that.
“We really have an attachment to the West. We have friends and family there. My son has kept in touch with his friends. And Kira is still young, she’ll adapt,” noted Hickerson.
Kept busy with everything from ensuring the roads are cleared of snow to dealing with the flooding of last June, Hickerson mentioned he has liked his time here.
“I really enjoyed working with everyone, and I enjoyed working for the town, getting things accomplished,” he said.
“But the waterfront project is something I’ll be glad to see completed. It’s so high-profile, it’s something I’m glad to have been involved with. I’ll be sure to visit sometime and see it when its completed,” added Hickerson.
Hickerson’s last day on the job is May 2. He’ll be heading to B.C. in the week or two, with the rest of his family joining him after school’s out for the summer.
Council accepted Hickerson’s resignation at its April 21 meeting. The town currently is advertising to find a replacement.
In the meantime, Bruce Spottiswood, Superintendent of Works Facilities, will assume the role of acting Manager of Facilities and Operations.
