Health inspectors saluted

Press Release

The Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors has announced the celebration of Environmental Public Health Week 2009 in Canada on Jan. 19-24.
The Northwestern Health Unit is happy to partner with the CIPHI to recognize the hard work of certified public health inspectors and environmental health officers in the region, and the importance of environmental health programs in the health-care system.
Public health inspectors/environmental health officers are dedicated professionals who are committed to promoting and protecting the health of the public while continually meeting new challenges from the environment that can affect human health.
Unfortunately, their duties sometimes go unnoticed unless a crisis (such as SARS, Walkerton, or the recent listeriosis outbreak) arises which brings attention to their work.
They provide consulting and inspection services in a wide array of fields, including food safety, drinking and recreational water, emergency preparedness, blastomycosis, private sewage disposal, child care and institutional facilities, rabies, pandemic planning, infection control and outbreak management, health hazard investigations, West Nile virus, and air quality.
To learn more about the profession, the CIPHI, and career opportunities in the field, contact a public health inspector at the Northwestern Health Unit or visit the CIPHI website at www.ciphi.ca
