From the OPP
As Hallowe’en approaches, communities throughout the region are preparing for a night when our streets will be filled with thousands of young ghosts and goblins.
Parents and children are reminded of some simple safety tips for trick-or-treaters:
•Be visible—wear bright colours and reflective tape, and carry a flashlight or glow stick;
•If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic;
•Be respectful of people’s property;
•Don’t trick-or-treat alone—walk in a group or with a trusted adult);
•Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering, and don’t eat candy until you get home;
•Stay in well-lit, familiar areas and neighbourhoods; and
•Wear well-fitted, warm clothing—avoid costumes with baggy sleeves and long hems to minimize the risk of contact with candles, getting caught on objects, and falls.
Have fun and stay safe!
