John Harrison will be the new general manager of the paper mill here, replacing Jim Gartshore, who moved to Montreal to accept a promotion, Abitibi-Consolidated announced yesterday in a press release.
Harrison began his career at the mill here in 1980, where held several positions including assistant general manager. He currently is general manager at Abitibi’s Fort William Division in Thunder Bay.
“I am really pleased to be rejoining the team at the Fort Frances Division,” Harrison said in the release. “Over the past five years, the division has continued to move ahead in terms of its safety performance, productivity, and grade development.
“It’s exciting to be able to support the team in its ongoing efforts at continuous improvement.
“On the personal side, Fort Frances was our home for many years and we are looking forward to returning to the community in the New Year,” added Harrison.
His appointment is effective Jan. 13, the release said. In the interim, the local mill will continue to be managed by Clark Johnson, it added.
