HAROLD McQUAKER

My name is Harold McQuaker and I am running for the position of mayor of the Town of Emo in the upcoming election.
I was born and raised in Rainy River District and have made Emo my home for 45 years. My wife, Shirley, and I raised our two boys here and their children are growing up in Emo, as well.
I have been in the construction and contracting business for 50 years, with Shirley an integral part of that business for many of those years. I know the dedication and commitment it takes to run a successful business and the importance of teamwork.
I am prepared to take this experience and work ethic into my job as mayor, if elected.
I believe honesty and transparency are of utmost important in keeping a municipal government and all its branches accountable and thriving. Major decisions must be made with input from all ratepayers, who must be given ample opportunity to keep abreast of issues that will affect them.
I believe in the importance of holding the rates of taxes and of fewer regulations, which impede progress in small towns. With the help of the new council, I will hold that rate and still maintain value for money spent.
We must provide an atmosphere in Emo that entices and promotes small and large businesses to set up here. In turn, this will create revenue and encourage growth in our community.
The municipal infrastructure must be kept in sync with federal and provincial standards to ensure the safety and environmental protection of its citizens.
Municipal governments are elected by their citizens, for their citizens, Working together is essential to a thriving, vibrant town and surrounding area. I look forward to working with the mayors of the other communities in our region.
I also intend to make myself available to our constituents by phone, in person, or by e-mail. I’m proud to be a part of this community and I would be honoured to work with, and be a voice for, all the people of Emo as your next mayor.
Thank you for your consideration.
