Hampton intends to run again

Press Release

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton stated in no uncertain terms on Saturday that he intends to seek re-election in the 2011 provincial election.
Speaking at the “Ham it up with Howie” tribute dinner, held to honour his nearly 13 years as leader of the Ontario New Democrats, at the Royal Canadian Legion in Dryden Hampton made it clear that he’s back to doing the job he loves, which is representing the people of the riding at Queen’s Park.
“The Liberals and Conservatives might want you to think that by stepping down as leader, I will not run again,” Hampton told a large crowd.
“The truth is that couldn’t be further from the truth,” he stressed. “I’m back to doing the job I love, which is representing and helping the people of this riding.
“Every morning when I wake up, I look forward to going to work because I honestly love this job.”
Supporters from around the riding travelled to Dryden for the dinner while many high-profile New Democrats, including provincial leader Andrea Horwath and Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty, took time out of their busy schedules to pay tribute from afar.
Federal Kenora NDP candidate Tania Cameron took part as the event’s emcee.
