The Fine Line Art Gallery here is celebrating two decades of business this year and as part of the celebration, it is looking to gather one piece of artwork from each of the founding members of the co-op.
“There were 10 of us when the gallery opened—we called it the ‘Group of 10,’” noted co-op member Jean Richards, pointing out the title is an homage to the famous Canadian landscape painters, “The Group of Seven.”
“I’m going to put paintings up, one from everybody,” Richards added, noting she’d love to have all 10 up by the end of January.
“The Group of 10” also includes Vi Plumridge, Ann Evans, Pam Brandrick, Dorothy Black, Terril Pentney, Bob Jeffrey, Linda Lovisa, Mildred Ouellette, and Margot Kerber.
While Richards has leads on works from most of these artists, she still needs pieces by the late Ouellette and the late Kerber.
Anyone who can help her is asked to drop by the gallery (located at 529 Mowat Ave.) or call 274-2242.
Richards is expecting at least some of the “Group of 10” to be appearing at the gallery throughout the year.
For example, Lovisa will be holding a workshop there at the end of June.
Tying into the 20-year celebration, the gallery is aiming to hold—or participate in—20 events this year, including its spring art show.
Fittingly, “20” is the theme of this year’s show.
Richards said it’s not too early for artists and artisans to start working on pieces for the exhibit.
How each artist interprets the theme is up to them, she added.
This could mean using 20 colours or shades, 20 different images, something to do with the number 20, or anything else.
As in past years, entries can be any size and in any medium, including photography, any kind of paint, ink, stained glass, or sculpture.
Artists are free to drop by the gallery and chat with co-op members to get ideas.
There is a $10 fee to enter the spring exhibit, but artists do not have to be a Fine Line member in order to submit their work.
Artwork also can be for sale or strictly for exhibition.
The date of the show still is being confirmed.
