Grief recovery program starting new session

Time heals all wounds. Replace the loss. Grieve alone. Be strong for others. Hide your feelings.
The Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services Inc. Counselling Unit hopes to dispel these grieving myths as part of its intensive 10-week grief recovery outreach program.
The sessions are slated to run every Monday, starting Jan. 12, from 7-9 p.m. at 824 Victoria Ave.
Facilitators Harold Tookenay and Mary Elder will co-lead the sessions, and ensure personal work will be done in a safe and trusting environment.
Both are certified grief specialists through the Grief Recovery Institute with more than 30 years of experience in the counselling field helping adults and children.
They also have been administering this program to select local participants in the past few years.
“Typically when we experience a death or loss of any kind, others really do not understand nor know how to support the depth of our sadness,” states a press release from the facilitators.
“Seldom do we truly feel supported or know how to process our own grief, but recovery from grief is possible by following a series of small specific steps,” it reads.
Some characteristics of grief include confusion, listlessness, and the inability to concentrate.
The cost of the grief counselling sessions is $250 per person, with a $100 deposit required for participants to reserve their place.
The remaining $150 can paid in a series of five equal $30 payments each week after the initial session.
