Grief program offered, First meeting slated Jan. 29

The Fort Frances Area Tribal Health Services Inc. will be offering the Grief Recovery Outreach Program, which will run Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. beginning Jan. 29.
“I think it’s really important for us First Nations people to begin doing our recovery work with issues that are most important to us. Issues that seem to impede our way of living a good life,” said Harold Tookenay, one of the grief recovery certified specialists.
“And so part of that is reaching back into our personal and family history, and even our community history, and to begin dealing with our grief issues,” he added.
Some of these issues might be historical in nature, or community or family or individual, he noted.
Tookenay explained whether the loss results from death, divorce, or childhood issues, recovery is possible—and that grief recovery requires a series of small and correct choices made by the griever.
Materials will be provided for the 12-week program, which will be held at 601 King’s Highway here in Fort Frances.
There is no cost to participate, but those interested are asked to pre-register by calling 274-9839.
