Jennifer Greenhalgh of JGreenhalgh Solutions has been elected the new president of the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce.
“I’ve got a real enthusiasm to improve our position in the Rainy River District,” said Greenhalgh, who ran for president against Myles Kuharski (Gillons’ Insurance Brokers).
“I want to grow businesses and our commerce and our events,” she added. “I really feel that’s what we need to do right now.
“We know we’ve got some really good events locally and throughout the Rainy River District, and this is a really great time to work on them and make ourselves more of a destination,” Greenhalgh reasoned.
“We have the opportunity to work with a lot of people, and we need to work comprehensively with people and to be the best we can be,” she stressed.
“And I believe we can only do that by working together.”
Greenhalgh said the community has had “a bad knock” but “we’re going to pick ourselves and dust ourselves off and move forward.”
“And I want to be part of that,” she added.
In addition to running her consulting business, Greenhalgh is involved in several boards and committees, including the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Festival and the BIA Board of Management.
But she pointed out the various groups are “all very closely linked, one with another,” and that’s what our community is all about.
Greenhalgh, who has been a Chamber director for several years, will be joined on the executive by first vice-president Jordan Forbes (Saulteaux Consulting & Engineering), second vice-president Paul Pirie (Tamarack Legal Solutions), treasurer Marie Allan (BDO Canada LLP); secretary Annely Armstrong-Thorstad (Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce), and past-president Mark Caron (ML Caron Electric).
Re-elected to the board of directors were Kuharski, Steve Gushulak (Fort Frances General Supply), Travis Glowasky (Studio Gibbous), Paul Noonan (La Place Rendez-Vous Hotel), Ben Morelli (From the Grind Up), and Bob Hamilton (Little Beaver Cultural Centre).
They are joined by newly-elected Jackie Lampi-Hughes (Energy Fitness Centre), Eric Blondin (TD Canada Trust), Rob Georgeson (Investors Group Financial Services), and Noreen Bourgeois (Confederation College).
A total of 16 candidates were nominated to run in the election.
Voting closed at 5 p.m. on Friday, but the final results were not released until late Monday night.
The new board will be sworn in at its January meeting.
