Press Release
The “Garden of Life,” situated in front of La Verendrye Hospital, was created to symbolize the chance of new life through the kindness and selflessness of those who chose to donate their organs.
It is a visual reminder of the importance of the need for registered organ and tissue donors.
Today in Ontario, about 1,540 people are waiting for life-saving organ transplants and thousands more whose lives could be enhanced through a tissue transplant.
Registering your consent is easy. Even if you have signed a donor card in the past, it is important to register your consent with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care health card database.
You can do this when you renew your photo health card or by completing and mailing in the consent form, which can be obtained at www.giftoflife.on.ca or by calling 1-800-263-2833.
Do not rule yourself out because of age or possible illness. Register your consent and let the health-care professional decide.
One individual donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of 75 others through the donation of tissue received.
