The Fine Line Art Gallery on Mowat Avenue is getting ready to open the cage and unleash untamed works of art when the “Wild ’n Wooly” show comes to life there Saturday.
And Linda Lovisa, who co-organized the event along with the other artists in the Fine Line co-op, said art-lovers had better be prepared to step into something wild if they drop by the gallery between April 12-May 3.
“It’s going to be really varied,” she remarked Monday afternoon, noting the works that have come in so far—which have ranged from oil, watercolour, and acrylic paintings to photography, mixed media, and even rug hookings—have definitely been either wild, woolly, or a combination of the two.
The deadline for artists to enter their work was March 29, but not all the registered works have arrived at the gallery yet.
Lovisa said about 30 pieces will be on exhibit.
“We were thinking we would end up with more, judging from the number of entry forms that went out,” she admitted. “I’m not sure what happened, whether people lost interest or procrastinated.
“But we’re certainly not disappointed. It’s going to be a great show,” she enthused.
An open house, including coffee and dainties, is slated Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the gallery, located at 529 Mowat Ave.
“Normally, we’re open until 9 p.m. when we open a show. But this is the same day as the [town’s] centennial ball and we wouldn’t want to compete with that,” noted Lovisa.
A grand finale is scheduled for the evening of May 3, including a performance by the Northern Lights Ensemble (Stephanie Hawkins and Katherine Williams).
