‘Friends of Library’ to resume meetings

The Friends of the Fort Frances Public Library will hold its first meeting of the season next Thursday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. downstairs in the library.
New volunteers are welcome to attend and needed to get involved in helping our library be the best it can be.
The group of volunteers has a full roster of fundraising activities planned for this fall and winter, including a tag day on Friday, Oct. 1, the biannual dinner and dance on Friday, Nov. 5, and the Valentine bake sale and Love Your Library draw in February.
Patrons and staff are aiming this year’s fundraising projects at replacing the existing adult sections’ high shelving with the lower style for easier accessibility.
The Friends of the Library is now into its ninth year and, together with wonderful support from the community, has raised funds to improve the library with the following items:
•Circulation desk
•Lounge furniture and carpets
•air conditioning for the Carnegie Room
•security system
•children’s media centre
•baby change table
•paperback spinners
•children’s play centre
•reading chair in the children’s library
•Early Years Initiative Reading Partner
•new lower shelving for Children’s Department
The Friends of the Library supports the library board’s new building program and is optimistic a new library will be built in the near future here.
All equipment and shelving purchased by the F.O.L. are portable and will be used in the new library.
