A report on French Immersion will top discussion at the Northwest Catholic District School Board’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday night.
“It will show an overview of French Immersion in our board and the situation across the province,” Al Cesiunnas, assistant to the director of education, said Tuesday morning.
Cesiunnas did not want to comment on the actual findings of the report until after it was presented to trustees at the meeting, which gets underway 7 p.m. at the board office next to St. Francis School.
According to the meeting agenda, the report covers everything from the nature of the French Immersion program, and what is involved in operating it, to projected numbers of students graduating from it.
Based on current enrolment, the report projects that over the next five years, the number of students who will graduate from the French Immersion program at St. Francis will go from 13 in 2002/03 to as high as 18 in 2005/06.
But that number is expected to drop again to 12 in 2006/07.
The report also investigates the staffing situation across the province, and highlights how many university students currently are working to complete degree requirements to become French teachers at Lakehead University, St. Boniface College, and the University of Ottawa.
Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the Catholic board will discuss the special education advisory committee and possibly make an appointment to it.
The board also is slated to accept a letter of resignation from trustee Cheryl Lovisa, who recently moved to Thunder Bay.
