Bookings for the Northern Ontario Therapeutic Riding Association’s annual “Freedom Ride” are now being taken—and the horses are going fast.
This year’s ride, slated to take place Sept. 6 at Joyce Young’s farm north of Devlin (rain date is Sept. 7), will consist of a two-hour ride and a barbecue afterwards.
Proceeds will go towards maintaining the program’s horses over the winter.
NORTRA provides an opportunity for physically and developmentally handicapped adults and children to enjoy the physical benefits of riding, as well as the emotional benefits of bonding with these gentle animals and the self-esteem that comes with it.
People interested in making pledges are advised to do so as soon as possible since there only are six horses still available at Young’s farm.
People also are welcome to bring their own horses, but are asked to pick up their pledge forms at Tammi’s Flower Garden in Fort Frances (247-8581) or at Young’s farm (486-3378).
