Four golfers struck by lightning yesterday

Four golfers got a little more than they bargained for while out on the course at Kitchen Creek Golf Club yesterday.
At approximately 5 p.m., the group was struck by lightning during a severe thunderstorm that rumbled through the district.
Club pro Steve Wood reported one man was injured more severely than the other three and remains in La Verendre Hospital while two others were held overnight for observation and released today and one was treated and released yesterday.
“He was knocked down, but remained coherent,” said Wood earlier today. Wood said the man sustained burns where he was wearing jewellery and complained of numbness in his legs, but did not require resuscitation by the paramedics who attended the scene.
Apparently, he sustained a direct hit while his companions, who were standing nearby, merely received a shock through the ground.
A spokesperson from Riverside Health Care Facilities Inc. in Fort Frances confirmed the event and that one person remains in hospital, but declined to give any further information.
