Last Thursday at Fort High, student mentors greeted Grade 8 students who will be attending high school this fall.
“Grade 8 Day” is a chance for students to meet their high school mentors and enjoy fun activities while getting used to the high school environment and making new friends.
The students enjoyed activities with their mentors, including a scavenger hunt, decorating Muskie rain gear, and a presentation by entertainer Scott Hammell, who uses the art of escape and magic to deliver inspirational presentations.
“I thought he was awesome,” enthused student mentor Dexter Fichuk.
“He had so much energy and just stayed positive.”
The student mentors are a select group chosen to be positive role models at Fort High. Each one is paired with two-four random Grade 8 students.
Mentors will guide their selected Grade 8 students for the entire school year.
“It was amazing,” said Grade 8 student Kurt McGuire.
“The presentation was really good,” he added. “I’m excited to come to high school.”
