Fort High hands out academic awards

Students and staff of Fort Frances High School took an hour yesterday afternoon to pay tribute to those who have achieved excellence in academics, the arts, and community service during the 2003-04 school year.
New this year were the Most Valuable Contributor awards—a variation of the Most Valuable Player awards given out last Tuesday night during the Muskie athletic awards banquet.
But yesterday, one person kept appearing again and again at the podium as the awards were handed out.
In addition to a number of academic awards, Grade 12 student Doug Judson received no less than four of the MVCs as well as the Principal’s Award for student leadership.
As Fort High principal Ian Simpson said prior to presenting the award that capped the assembly, “He’s [Judson] been a great leader by example for several years now in many different areas.”
Afterwards, Judson admitted he was somewhat surprised by the amount of hardware he took in. “I really wasn’t expecting the MVCs,” he admitted.
With the school year rapidly winding down, Judson now has his sights set on the future, although that future is still somewhat uncertain.
“I’m going to Lakehead [University] in September for an honours bachelor of arts,” he remarked. But beyond that, he has no concrete plans.
“For now, I’ll just see what unfolds,” he reasoned.
Judson did, however, rule out pursuing a teaching career and coming back to his old alma mater as a staff member.
“No, no, that’s not going to happen,” he stressed. “People ask me that and I just shake my head.”
In the meantime, Judson will be spending the summer working at Cloverleaf ShopEasy in Emo as he’s been doing for the last four years.
Here is the list of the other awards and the recipients:
