It’s an off-Broadway musical revue about the best of Broadway.
Fort Frances High School’s “Broadway Musical Revue,” which runs today through Friday at 8 p.m. in the J.A. Mathieu Auditorium, will feature songs from “Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables,” and “Tommy” just to name a few.
“There’s an awful lot of good music in the shows we looked at,” noted teacher John Dutton, who organized the revue with Chris Denby. “Stuff that we thought people were very familiar with.”
“We were noting the amount of really good music available [from Broadway shows] and thought it was time to do it,” echoed Denby.
“It’s the best-known songs from eight musicals,” he added.
All the selections were picked from musicals written from the 1960s on. About 40 students make up the soloists, chorus, and orchestra for the show.
For the most part it’s all student performers, Denby noted, although five teachers stepped in to fill some of the gaps in the orchestra.
“The kids are doing a great job,” he said. “We’ve just started putting it on stage [this week].”
“[It’s] running really well,” added Dutton. “In fact, we’re overdue. We wanted to do it back in November but couldn’t [due to the teacher’s strike].
“I think people will find it enjoyable,” he continued. “We’re picking stuff that was popular in its time and still popular in this time.”
Tickets, which will be available at the door, cost $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
