Fort Frances sees first birth of New Year

Fort Frances’ first baby of 2006 was born New Year’s Day at La Verendrye Hospital.
Christian Douglas Ramsay, born to Malori Grover of Fort Frances and Doug Ramsay of International Falls, Mn., came into the world at 10 a.m. on Sunday, tipping the scale at eight pounds, six ounces.
Grover reported Tuesday morning that the birth of her first child, who measured 23 inches long, went smoothly.
“She [Grover] will be spending every New Year’s Day having a birthday party,” enthused Loretta Martin, who was at her daughter’s side on Tuesday morning, beaming as she looked at her newborn grandson.
“Christian has some pretty happy grandparents,” she added. Grandpa is David Martin.
Grover was expected to leave the hospital around noon Tuesday.
Last year’s New Year’s baby was Kade Nicholas Oster, born to Brad and Lonna Oster of Fort Frances. He didn’t arrive until 1:26 p.m. on Jan. 3, weighing six pounds, five ounces.
He also was a first child.
