Former resident donating book proceeds to local museum

Former resident Neil McQuarrie, who recently published a booklet entitled “Recollections of a Fort Frances Childhood,” will see proceeds from it donated to the Fort Frances Museum as a way of saying thank you for its help to do research for his writings.
Stories in the booklet are copies of articles McQuarrie wrote for the Fort Frances Times between 1996-99.
“The museum and [curator] Pam Hawley were very helpful in letting me go through old copies of the Times when I was looking for information for my columns,” McQuarrie, 63, now retired and living in Brandon, Man., said yesterday.
“And I think we treat our museums rather badly in the country so [this donation] was the least I could do,” he added.
Hawley said proceeds from the book have yet to be earmarked but likely would help fund museum activities and renovations.
Copies of “Recollections” cost $4.95, and are available at the Times office, the Fort Frances Museum, and the Fort Frances Public Library.
Abitibi-Consolidated and the Fort Frances Times donated printing costs for the booklet.
McQuarrie currently is working on a book about the Fort Frances Canadians hockey team he hopes to have out by the spring.
