Local gardeners once again will get their chance to see whose thumbs are greenest this year when the Fort Frances Horticultural Society holds its annual flower and vegetable show tomorrow (Aug. 7) at the old CN station here.
Following the theme, “Centennial Garden Gems,” organizers are hoping the event will be as good as ever, horticultural society member Astrid Sobkowicz noted yesterday afternoon.
“It’s hard to say [what the number of entries will be]. We usually don’t know until the day of the event,” she chuckled.
But Sobkowicz did say the weather—despite the relative lack of rain here this summer—shouldn’t play a large role in the quality of the entries this year.
The judging will take pace in the morning. The show then will be open for public viewing from 2-8 p.m.
Also at tomorrow’s show, the winners of the horticultural society’s centennial garden contest will be recognized.
Five winners—for best in-ground pool, deck and container, full yard, vegetable garden, and front yard—each will be given cheques for $100 for being the best in those respective categories.
“We had a difficult time picking winners from all the beautiful gardens,” said Sobkowicz.
Admission is free, and there also will be refreshments and door prizes. Everyone is welcome to attend.
