Fitzgerald named chair

The Northwest Catholic District School Board selected its new chair and vice-chair for the coming year on Saturday.
Fort Frances trustee Anne-Marie Fitzgerald, who previously served as vice-chair, was chosen to be the chair while Dryden trustee John Borst was selected as vice-chair.
This inaugural meeting was followed by the board’s regular monthly one, which included a hands-on demonstration of “Smart Board” technology by St. Francis teachers Shelly Jordbro and Corine Bannon.
Bannon demonstrated how this new technology is being used at St. Francis to teach the Ojibwe language while Jordbro showed how it is utilized throughout the school day in her classroom.
The board also heard a presentation by Keith Loucks of Northwinds Energy. He has completed energy audits of all the board’s buildings across the district, with the exception of the board office in Dryden (which is rented).
Findings from these audits were presented, alongside Loucks’ recommendations for the most cost-effective and constructive ways to make these buildings more energy-efficient.
