FITS queen pageant a go

The Fun in the Sun queen pageant is a go, organizer Sherri Puddicombe says.
Over the weekend, three more girls came forward and announced their candidacy in the annual pageant, bringing the total number of contestants to four.
The first contestant to sign up, Amanda Bone, is now joined by Katie Cuthbertson, Ashley Dyson, and Jennifer Pattison.
“I’ve been thinking about it for the last couple of years,” Pattison said when asked why she decided to enter the competition.
“I’m in Grade 12 now, it’s my last summer in town before I go away to school. I thought it would be fun to do,” the 17-year-old added.
Pattison, whose sponsor is La Place Rendez-Vous, plans to study hotel and restaurant management at Confederation College in Thunder Bay this fall.
Dyson, 19, who plans to become a veterinarian, said one of the things that attracted her to the queen pageant was the fact the organizers have limited the number of events this year.
“I heard they needed more contestants and it seemed like a lot of fun,” she said. “I honestly haven’t done anything like this before. I’m just going to do my best.”
Dyson has until Friday to find a sponsor.
Last year, 10 girls vied for the FITS queen crown while nine guys competed for the title of FITS king.
The girls will be judged on community participation, personality, speaking, and enthusiasm, as well as neatness and appearance.
FITS queen activities will begin with Mall Day on June 26 and end with entertainment night and the crowning on June 29.
