After helping out at the La Verendrye General Hospital Auxiliary’s annual “Strawberry Social” on Thursday afternoon, the six Fun in the Sun queen contestants have kicked into high gear with a slew of activities ahead of them.
Lindsay Cawston (George Armstrong Co.), Sarah Hebert (La Place Rendez-Vous), April Matheson (364 Food Store), Joanna McQuarrie (Skates and Blades), Ashley Sisco (Rainbow Motel), and Jade Whitefield (Pharmasave) will holding be holding a fundraiser car wash Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Canadian Tire.
Cost is a cash donation.
But the six will really get to shine Sunday night during the entertainment night at the Townshend Theatre.
“There’s going to be a fashion show, entertainment by all the girls, and some entertainment from some community groups,” enthused Rachel Thiessen, who co-organized the event with Sherri Puddicombe.
“It’s going to be a good night.”
The show starts at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, which cost $6, are available from the contestants or at the theatre box office, which will open at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Then next week, the girls will keep busy during the BIA’s “Mall Day” on Thursday. Drop by Pharmasave to see them, as well as enjoy children’s games, a dunk tank, and a barbecue.
The six also will be on hand next Friday for the annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic at the Fort Frances Public Library, and then next Saturday during Culturama at the Memorial Sports Centre.
On July 1, you can see them in the Canada Day parade, where each will have their own floats. The parade starts at 12:30 p.m.
The contestants then will stage their picnic basket auction under the big tent at Pither’s Point at 3:15 p.m.
The pageant will culminate with the crowning at 5 p.m. that day.
In related Fun in the Sun news, the winners of Beta Sigma Phi–Phi Iota Chapter’s annual “Beach Baby” contest also will be announced July 1 at 4:45 p.m.
And the FITS mini-queen contest, sponsored by Wood’s Sewing Machines, will be held Saturday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre.
