FITS car wash slated tomorrow

You may already have seen them around town, selling their buttons, but tomorrow is another chance to support the Fun in the Sun queen and king contestants when they hold a car wash.
Running from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the parking lot between the Red Dog Inn and The Place, most of the 19 contestants will be out to wash vehicles.
“The good weather is here,” said Sherri Puddicombe, who is organizing the pageant along with Rachel Thiessen for the second year in a row.
“Avoid the long lines at the automated car wash, and have some good, old-fashioned elbow grease put into the washing of your vehicle,” she added.
“Come out a support us.”
Cost of a wash is a donation of your choice.
This year’s 11 queen contestants are Heather Algie (Lakeland Personnel), Sarah Angus (The Great Bear), Shanna Calder (Weeza’s Gifts, Etc.), Kayla Caul (Pinewood Sports & Marine), Sara Fitzgerald (Gillons’ Insurance), Melanie Hyatt (Legion Branch #29), Alison McIvor (M&S Bootery and Sportique), Tanis McTavish (MacDonald Motors), Sarah Noonan (La Place Rendez-Vous), Hope Wilson (Dairy Queen) and Jessica Wilson (The Olde & Resold Shoppe).
The eight king contestants are Jamie Algie (Adrian Chapman), Tyson Dennis (Rainy Lake Sports & Tackle), Lorne Koski (Skates & Blades), Karl Martinson (Howarth’s Home Centre), Jamie Pryde (West End Motors), Rick Ricard (Pharmasave), Dan Robinson (Morgan and Associates), and Ryan Whalen (Tom Veert Contracting Ltd.).
In the next month, other events and appearances for the contestants include a flea markets and kids’ carnival June 15 at the East End Hall, the BIA’s “Mall Day” on June 27, the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary’s “Strawberry Social” and the public library’s Teddy Bear Picnic on June 28, and the July 1 picnic basket auction and crowning at Pither’s Point Park.
Puddicombe noted more donated items would be appreciated to the flea market. “Anyone with stuff left over from their garage sale can give it to us,” she said.
