A Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) walk will be taking place this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre (Couchiching).
In partnership with the local United Native Friendship Centre and Rainy River District Substance Abuse Prevention Team, the MADD walk will be the first of its kind to happen here.
Tiffany Clifford-Smith, chair of the Rainy River District Substance Abuse Prevention Team, said this is something the three organizations have been planning since early March.
She said the walk is free and anyone can show up Saturday morning to participate.
The route will be roughly four km long—beginning at the health access centre and finishing La Verendrye Hospital.
Clifford-Smith noted vehicles will be on hand to take walkers back to the health access centre afterwards, where refreshments will be served.
“We’re really hoping that lots of people will come out and we can make it an annual event,” she remarked.
“Please come out and support. It’s a really important cause,” Clifford-Smith stressed.
I think it’s especially that time of year where there’s grad and there’s prom, and the weather’s getting nice, and it’s a good reminder for people to be safe,” she reasoned.
