Fire scene still quiet


The long weekend was fairly quiet with regards to forest fires, with only one new blaze reported in the past 24 hours.
Red Lake Fire #62 is a 0.6-hectare blaze classified as “not under control.”
Meanwhile, one new fire reported Sunday while two were reported on Saturday.
They were located in the districts of Kenora and Thunder Bay.
All of the new fires have been declared “out.”
In related news, a recent infrared scan of Red Lake Fire #31 showed no hot spots.
All equipment and personnel have left the fire site and it now will be monitored.
Rain is in the forecast into the week, with the forest fire hazard ranging from “moderate” to “low” across the region.
The total number of active fires in the region has dipped to 30, with one in Kenora District, eight in Red Lake District, 14 in Sioux Lookout District, and seven in Nipigon District.
These are covering a total of 32.247.2 ha.
The region has seen a total of 279 fires to date, having consumed 39,477.3 ha.
