Fire safety day slated Saturday

The Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service will be at Canadian Tire this Saturday (Oct. 1) to get an early start on Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9-15).
Fire safety specialist Wayne Riches said firefighters will be there from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and that the public is encouraged to stop by to get fire safety information as well as enter draws for various prizes, including a child’s bike.
Riches noted two fire trucks will be on hand for people to get a closer look at, and there also will be plenty of giveaways for both youths and adults.
Firefighters also will be available answer any questions about fire safety—and it’s possible “Sparky” the fire safety dog will be there, too.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Protect Your Family From Fire.”
Firefighters also will be stopping at local schools and talking students in JK-Grade 3 about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week.
Each year, they usually speak to 500-600 school children.
