The forest fire hazard is again “high” across the entire Northwest Region and several days of beautiful weather are forecast to keep it there, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported.
FireRangers were responding to new fires that started in the past two days in the districts of Fort Frances, Kenora, Dryden, and Sioux Lookout.
The number of active fires in the region now stands at 34, covering an area of 470,530.2 hectares.
Most are “being observed” and good progress continues on larger active fires in the region.
This number includes four in Fort Frances District, all of which are burning in Quetico Provincial Park.
FireRangers also are reporting success in getting most new fires “under control” or “out” within 24 hours if they require suppression.
