Fire destroys car in parking lot

Fort Frances firefighters responded to a car fire in the parking lot off the 200 block of Church Street this morning.
Fire Capt. Frank Sheppard said the call came in at 9:54 a.m. but by the time the fire department responded, the vehicle already was in flames.
Quick work by the crew soon extinguished the flames, but the Cadillac was a write-off.
“I don’t think they’ll salvage anything except maybe the rear tires,” Sheppard remarked.
The vehicle only had been there a short time and was unoccupied at the time it caught fire.
The owner apparently was shopping in the area.
Sheppard said the cause of the blaze was still unknown, but it appears to have started under the hood.
Car fires are not an uncommon event, he added, noting the fire department attends eight such incidents, on average, a year.
No injuries were reported nor damage to any other property.
