Christmas came a little early for the Fort Frances Fire & Rescue Service.
Union Gas is supporting the fire department with a $1,000 grant to purchase public fire safety education materials.
“We make it a priority to support important and much-needed safety initiatives,” Duane Harris, Union Gas utility service manager, said as he presented Fire Chief/CEMC Tyler Moffitt with the grant money Nov. 30 at the fire hall.
“At Union Gas, safety is a top priority, and we are committed to keeping ourselves, our teams, and our communities safe,” Harris added.
The Fort Frances Fire & Rescue Service is made up of a full-time fire chief/CEMC, six full-time firefighters, and 16 part-time ones.
Equipping the firefighters with public fire safety education materials is important to ensure they can deliver fire safety education to the general public effectively, Chief Moffitt noted.
“This generous donation from Union Gas helps to strengthen our collaborative partnership,” he remarked.
“Public fire safety education materials, related to our fire safety initiatives, is important for our fire and rescue service and for Union Gas.
“Working together, we will be better equipped to keep our community educated and safe,” Chief Moffitt added.
“Fire safety and our people is what we all hold dear to our hearts,” he stressed.
“No one gets left behind.”
In related news, Union Gas last week supported the Township of Morley Fire Department with a $1,000 grant to purchase specialized firefighting equipment.
The department is made up of about 17 volunteer firefighters and equipping them with up-to-date, modern personal protection is important for their safety and well-being.
Personal protection equipment (PPE) includes bunker gear, boots, gloves, balaclavas, and high-visibility clothing.
“This generous donation from Union Gas helps to strengthen our collaborative partnership,” said Morley Fire Chief Ken Haw.
“Training and awareness, related to the safe handling of natural gas, is important for the fire department and for Union Gas,” he noted.
“Working together, we are better equipped to keep our community informed and safe.”
