Final report to be discussed at library meeting

The Fort Frances Public Library Board will be holding a public meeting tomorrow night for concerned citizens to view the architect’s final report on the future development of the library.
John Stephenson, of the Thunder Bay architectural firm Kuch, Stephenson, Gibson, and Malo, will present his final report to the library board and the public.
“He’s going to present different sites we’ve been looking at in town,” said Juliana Sprovieri, assistant librarian.
“He’ll also have some sketches of what the library might look like,” she added.
The need for a new library was first confirmed last fall, when Stephenson conducted a feasibility report. His findings were presented at an open house in March.
At that time he presented two possible plans–to either expand the library at the current site, or to build a new one-storey building.
This second option turned out to be the more popular one, particularly when the public learned that the library would have to be closed from eight months to a year in order to renovate and expand.
With Stratton Equipment reaching an agreement with the town this week regarding the old Fort Frances High School on First Street, it is unclear whether or not the library will be included in plans for the property.
The meeting will take place tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Fort Frances Museum. The public is welcome, and there will be an opportunity for discussion.
“Everyone’s involved because it’s a municipal project,” Sprovieri said.
