Construction of a new Canada Customs and Immigration Facility here could begin by the end of the month.
“There’s no official ground-breaking ceremony date set but we’re very close to doing that,” said Jim Gartshore, general manager of the Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. mill here, which is funding the construction along with Boise Cascade Corp.
The land issues between the mills and the Town of Fort Frances have all been resolved and the final, physical designs for the facility have been approved by the mills and Canada Customs and Immigration.
Now, all that remains to be finalized is the “up-rating guidelines”–guidelines which are used to designate the areas surrounding the customs facility and bridge.
The mills and Canada Customs and Immigration are in the final stages of negotiating those guidelines.
