The Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association is requesting temporary forgiveness from town council for outstanding finance fee charges.
The FFMHA had paid its outstanding ice rental fees for 2017-18 in the amount of $69,488.60 but still outstanding are finance fee charges that were incurred in the amount of $1,632.43, FFMHA treasurer Travis Enge explained in a letter received by town council at its regular meeting last night.
“FFMHA is unable to pay these charges until registration opens and our income stream starts,” he noted.
“With these charges removed, the FFMHA will be in the black with all outstanding debt paid,” added Enge.
“We are excited as a new board to move forward with this organization to promote and provide hockey opportunities to the community while remaining fiscally responsible.”
Enge concluded the town can “expect prompt payment when we are able in August.”
Council referred the letter to the Administration and Finance executive committee for its recommendation.
Also at last night’s meeting, council:
•appointed deputy treasurer Dawn Galusha as new town treasurer effective Jan. 1, 2019;
•heard a presentation from library CEO Caroline Goulding and library board chair Andrew Hallikas re: the library’s 2017 annual report;
•heard a verbal update on capital projects;
•agreed to make a contribution to the Rainy River Vet Services Committee’s Vet Assistance Trust Fund in the amount of $650;
•received the Advisory Notice of Adjustment for property located at 375 Scott St. in Fort Frances for the 2017 taxation year (the total financial impact is $869.79 consisting of a reduction of municipal revenue of $587.76, education revenue of $200.37, and BIA levy of $81.66);
•approved the Rainy River District Municipal Association’s 2018 per capita levy in the amount of $6,761.75;
•approved a fire safety plan for the East End Hall; and
•approved travel and per diem claims for Couns. Paul Ryan ($777.30), Ken Perry ($644.74), Doug Kitwoski ($602.82), and June Caul ($523.01) for their attendance at the NOMA conference held May 2-4 in Kenora.
