Nancy Gibb and her daughter, Emily, have made work on the upcoming high school performance of “Grease” a real family affair.
“I got involved in the production of the show because my daughter is the producer,” Nancy Gibb said Tuesday. “This is a student produced and directed show and all the kids are really putting a lot of hard work into it.”
Though the show will have a lot of elements that people will be able to recognize, Gibb admits that the stage version of “Grease” is much different than the movie.
“There will of course be the songs that everyone recognizes, but there will be some different things too,” Gibb noted. “We have Borka Gauthier choreographing the dances and she has been very busy getting the kids in shape. The students have been having a lot of fun so far and I think that is going to carry over in their performance. People can expect a really good show.”
“Since the students have been doing this pretty much on their own,” Gibb continued. “We have had to scale it down quite a bit. We don’t have access to props or sets, so we have had to do a lot of it on our own.”
With performances starting May 10th and running through to the 12th when there will be a matinee and evening performance, Gibb and the 30 cast members are busy rehearsing and learning their songs and dance moves.
“The students have all been working very hard,” Gibb said. “We had a few struggles in the beginning because this is really the first time the students have put on a performance of this type. Musicals require a lot of intricate detail and work, so it has taken a while for us to come together.
“Luckily we have a lot of very experienced performers working on the production,” Gibb added. “R.J. Comeau will be playing Danny, and Katie Steele is going to be Sandy. Both of them have been doing theatre and are veterans of the stage.”
