FFHS adds new welding equipment

Press Release

The Tech Department at Fort Frances High School has been able to add new equipment to its welding booths after receiving funding from the Canadian Welding Association Foundation.
Teacher Robert Guertin applied for the funding last year and learned in May they were successful in receiving $20,500.
With 12 welding booths but just six MIG welders, Guertin used the funds to purchase six additional machines in order to outfit each booth with its own unit.
There also was enough funds to supply each welder with a roll of wire and gas, as well as to purchase some extra welding sticks.
“The additional equipment is such a benefit to the manufacturing class,” said Guertin.
He noted with a class of 22 students, they now can do just two rotations in the welding booths and be more productive during class time.
Fort High offers a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in manufacturing.
The welding facility also is used by local colleges and is an accredited test centre for the Canadian Welding Bureau.
