Festive R.I.D.E. campaign launched

The OPP, in conjunction with police services across the country, will stay one step ahead of impaired drivers this holiday season during the annual Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign.
Starting today (Nov. 29) and running until Jan. 2, officers will be highly-visible across Rainy River District checking thousands of vehicles.
This is the time of year when people take full advantage of the holiday season with staff Christmas parties and festive gatherings with families and friends.
These occasions sometimes go hand-in-hand with alcohol consumption and, consequently, some drivers who travel our roads during this period may risk driving impaired—placing all other road users in danger.
The OPP would like to remind all people to plan ahead if they are attending a Christmas party or an event where alcohol is being served. Make sure you have a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.
The public also is encouraged to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or by cell phone at *OPP if they suspect someone is operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
