It’s time once again to get ready for the Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts, which will take place in April.
Festival committee member Marilyn Allan said entries must be postmarked no later than Monday, Feb. 6.
“Copies of the resource manual and syllabus have been delivered to the libraries in Rainy River, Emo, and Fort Frances,” she said.
“You may refer to the resource manual and photocopy the pages that you need,” Allan remarked.
“Please do not remove the document,” she stressed. “Leave it so that others can have access to it.”
The material, including the entry form, also is available online at www.ff-festival.com in PDF format.
“And be sure to read the syllabus carefully,” Allan warned.
New this year will be Festival Arts Bursaries, which are replacing the camp scholarship.
Allan said recipients will be chosen by the adjudicator and four bursaries, valued at $150 each, will be awarded to one deserving student in each of the four divisions: piano, drama, vocal, and instrumental.
“Competitors may apply for these awards each time they participate in the festival,” explained Allan, though noting first-time applicants will be given preference when these bursaries are awarded.
“Those interested must fill out an application and submit it to the festival committee to be considered for these bursaries,” she stressed.
Meanwhile, another new award will be presented to rookie participants in the festival.
“They must be competing in the festival for the first time as an individual, and be sure to indicate that on the entry form,” Allan said.
In related news, last year’s award winners are reminded to return all trophies and plaques as soon as possible to Garry Wilde at 432 Second St. E. in Fort Frances (274-3538).
“Please do not return them to the Fort Frances Public Library,” said Allan.
The tentative dates for the divisions are April 10-11 (instrumental), April 12-13 (drama), April 16-21(piano), and April 23-25 (vocal). The annual Festival Highlights concert is scheduled for Sunday, May 6.
“The committee is always in need of new members to share the work necessary to keep this festival running,” Allan added.
