Beta Sigma Phi did a final tally last night on proceeds netted at its “A Stroll Through the Century” fashion show April 15, and will present $3,500 to the Fort Frances Museum.
The presentation will be made next week during the sorority’s annual Founder’s Day banquet at the Red Dog Inn.
“It’s more than we expected [to donate]–quite a bit more,” said Marlene McQuarrie, president of Alpha Beta chapter, which organized the show.
McQuarrie said the sorority already had spoken to museum curator Pam Hawley about designating the proceeds within the Museum, stipulating only that the money be used for something other than maintenance costs.
“We’d like to see it go towards something concrete like a display cabinet or book cases,” she noted.
“Pam’s wish list included cabinets with glass doors so that she could show off [artifacts] while keeping them protected,” she added. “That is the vision for where we see the money spent–something with a memory attached to it.”
“It’s a really positive move and we are very grateful for their [help],” Hawley said last night.
In related news, the Founder’s Day banquet also will set the stage for a donation of $6,600 to the Canadian Cancer Society from proceeds garnered through sorority’s annual Daffodil Drive last month.
