Get your containers ready. This Saturday (Sept. 4) is Bulk Honey Day at the Clover Valley Farmers’ Market
Rick and Linda Neilson of Seven Bends Honey Farm will fill your pail straight from the barrel with freshly-extracted honey for $3 per pound.
Rick Neilson always has been fascinated with bees and started his first hives in the mid-1970s.
Keeping a few hives has grown to a business of tending 70 hives in 2004 and a product line which includes not only liquid honey but creamed honey, comb honey, and flavoured honey sticks.
All are packaged in a wide variety of containers to suit any customer’s needs.
Seven Bend’s honey can be found in local outlets, and also is marketed throughout Northwestern Ontario at trade and craft shows.
Aromatic beeswax also is a product of bee-keeping. Candle-makers everywhere prefer its sweet natural fragrance and texture which is far superior to paraffin.
Several sizes of beeswax blocks are available from the Neilsons, who also have a beautiful selection of beeswax candles in many colours and sizes.
Rick and Linda will be pleased to answer any questions you may have about their products and bee-keeping.
Then 10 days from now, on Saturday, Sept. 11, the Clover Valley Farmers’ Market will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special luncheon and hourly draws.
Market vendors want to showcase what great local foods are available, so the luncheon menu will include beef roast, potato salad, baked beans, tomato salad, corn, assorted desserts, and drinks—all foods which can be obtained at the farmers’ market.
Tickets for the luncheon meal are $10 each, which can be purchased from vendors at the farmers’ market this Saturday. Plan to join us for the celebration and good food!
Winner of the free draw for a dozen corn on the cob last Saturday was Pam Makarchuk.
