Farmers’ market closing for season

It will be pumpkin-mania tomorrow as the Clover Valley Farmers’ Market on McIrvine Road closes for the season.
Among the highlights will be the annual auction of pumpkins carved and decorated by local artists to raise money for the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
The event was started two years ago by market co-manager Deb Cornell.
“There will be an interesting display of pumpkins,” she said.
“We’ve got almost a dozen pumpkins,” Foundation director Teresa Hazel said this morning.
Hazel said she isn’t sure what ghoulish gourd creations will be made for the event but judging from last year, she predicted they’re bound to be unique.
“I know last year they were really creative. We had centerpieces, painted ones—even a big gourd of some kind,” she remarked.
Residents are urged to come out and view the haunting decorations—and possibly try to win a pumpkin themselves. “This is just a fun seasonal fundraiser,” Hazel said.
Speaking of seasonal, the Christmas Store will open at the McIrvine Road location in two weeks, with the farmers’ market opening for the 2003 season next May.
