Students and staff had to wait outside Fort Frances High School for a while this morning as the fire department responded to a fire reported there around 7:30 a.m.
Firefighters entered the building, smelled smoke, and did a systematic search of the building with the help of the school’s alarm panel.
Investigation turned up a fan motor burning in the mechanical room for the school’s elevator. Capt. Joe Bobczynski quickly put it out.
While the fire posed no danger to anyone, it caused quite a bit of smoke and the building had to remain evacuated until all of it could be blown out of the school.
“We were really pleased with the high school and their evacuation plan,” said firefighter Greg Allan. “When we got there, the building was cleared of anybody who was there.
“It’s nice to see they have a good system,” he added.
After the smoke was cleared out, firefighters did a walk-through with the high school’s health and safety staff, who felt it was safe for staff and students.
Firefighters left the scene at 9:42 a.m., with students and staff going back inside shortly after that.
