FACS planning open house

The community services team at Family and Children’s Services here is inviting the public to attend its open house March 5 from 4-6 p.m.
“We have a new space in the basement, the community services team, so it’s a newly-furnished renovated space,” FACS staffer Becky McClain explained as to why they’re holding the open house.
This new space is home to programs like the supervised access one, which allows for supervised exchanges and visits with families.
“[It’s] also for the family-centered conferences,” McClain noted. “And we have just recently hired a volunteer co-ordinator who hopes to start some mentoring in the space also.
“It’s just basically an opportunity to meet everyone,” added McClain, who joined FACS just this past November.
Amanda Jourdain, who previously had worked with FACS as a college student, was hired as its volunteer co-ordinator.
“The volunteer program is also looking to recruit people,” said McClain. “It’s a good opportunity for people to make a difference in a child’s life.”
Family conferencing also has become permanent within the agency.
“The family-centered conferencing has proved to be very successful in it’s tenure,” she remarked. “Not a lot of people understand what exactly it is so [the open house is] an opportunity to find out what each of our different programs offer.
“And everybody is always curious to see what the old high school looks like! So it’s another opportunity to come down and see how they renovated,” she added.
The open house also will feature draws, a door prize, and goodie bags for the first 200 people. The first 50 guests will receive a mug.
