‘Faber Drive’ playing here again

“Faber Drive” is coming back by popular demand—and bringing a rock show sure to satisfy returning fans and blow the socks off newcomers.
Adam Armit and his company, WildFire, opted to bring the popular rock band back to Fort Frances on Aug. 7 after Faber Drive’s stellar first show at the Townshend Theatre back in March.
In fact, their agency contacted him with news of the possibility of a second gig.
“[The agency] knew how well it did last time, and the band had a great time last time and they had some days to fill before their big tour, so they decided to make their way back,” noted Armit.
“The last time we played there, the fans were awesome,” enthused David Faber, guitarist and lead singer of the band. “We were signing autographs for at least a couple of hours.
“Standing in the lobby there, too, we met a lot of friends. You got some pretty cool people out there.”
“The energy was really cool. Last time we were there, all the kids were super into it,” Faber added. “There was a lot of screaming and singing and jumping.”
Faber said they have played a lot bigger shows than Fort Frances, but doesn’t think crowd size really matters as far as they’re concerned.
“Even if there’s only five people in the crowd, we are going to play our best to those five people as we are going to play to 10,000 people,” Faber explained while describing their previous show in Fort Frances as definitely being a “top 10.”
He recalled having the crowd singing along, jumping, and flashing pictures right, left, and centre. “It was awesome—a rush,” he enthused.
This excellent feeling local fans left with the band really made an impression.
“[Tickets] sold out in less than a day-and-a-half last time and that was the fastest they sold out in their entire tour, so they were pretty happy about that and that made them look forward to the show a lot more,” said Armit.
“And the fact that not too many shows come to Fort Frances, that had the crowd a little more excited,” he added. “So just all in all, everything went smoothly.”
Ticket sales have been going quite well this time around, too. On the first day last week, a short but enthusiastic line-up of teens were waiting outside of Sight & Sound to get their hands on tickets.
In the first 20 minutes, 70 tickets were sold, and by the end of the first day a whopping 200 were gone.
There were still roughly 100 tickets left as of press time last night but the interest has not been waning.
The show starts at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30.
Many of the same people will be attending the second show, but there also are many new one anxious to become audience members because of the buzz the first show set.
“It’s going to be intense,” promised Faber, trying to pump up attendance for their next concert. “If anyone decides not to come, they’re going to regret it because they are going to hear about it from all their friends that did go.
“So you better get your butt out there!” he laughed.
“You don’t really get this band until you see them live. Their energy is undeniable and they love playing live,” said tour manager Kevin “Chief” Zaruk.
“This is a band that is determined and has a clear vision of what and who they want to be,” he added.
The recognition this relatively new band already has received certainly is a testament to that.
Founded by frontman of Nickelback, Chad Kroeger, Faber Drive was quickly passed through some of the better hands in today’s new music industry until they were signed and recorded.
Quick to the draw, the band toured with such bands as MxPX, Hedley, 2007 Canadian Idol winner Brian Melo, Marianas Trench, and Nickelback. They also have been nominated for a Juno Award for best new group of 2008.
Furthermore, they’re on the bill for a super concert with Simple Plan, Metro Station, and Cute Is What We Aim For, which kicks off Aug. 19 in Newfoundland, jets across Canada to their home province (British Columbia), and then backtracks to end in Winnipeg on Sept. 9 at the MTS Centre.
Faber Drive is on MuchMusic regularly, or you can listen in to their hit singles “Second Chance,” “Tongue-tied,” and “When I’m With You.”
Their latest track, “Sleepless Nights,” is due to hit the airwaves in the next month.
Faber Drive also recently became involved with the charity World Vision.
They will have a booth set up near their merchandise table at the concert here and urge audience members to help them out with the cause.
