After gathering information on the interest of reintroducing the French Immersion program at St. Michael’s School here, a recommendation on how to proceed will be presented at tonight’s regular meeting of the Northwest Catholic District School Board.
Superintendent of Education Brendan Hyatt is recommending the program be introduced at the SK and Grade 1 level beginning in September.
With 73 surveys returned, 23 expressed interest to register a child for French Immersion SK while 18 expressed interest to register a child for Grade 1.
Requirements for program implementation note a minimum enrolment of 16 students is necessary to introduce a new class.
Also at tonight’s meeting, trustees will:
•recognize Joanne Peacock, a health educator for the Northwestern Health Unit, for her dedication to Sacred Heart School (Sioux Lookout);
•present the 2015 board committees;
•look to approve the appointment of Mark Daniels to the Special Education Advisory Committee; and
•hear a number of board reports and updates.
The meeting—being held via videoconference—gets underway at 6 p.m. at St. Francis School.
