Events to highlight Odd Job Week

Press Release

The Fort Frances Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) will celebrate its annual Odd Job Week from July 6-10.
Odd Job Week promotes youth employment by linking young people looking for casual summer employment and employers or homeowners seeking help.
“The Odd Job Squad is perfect for students who want temporary summer work or who want the opportunity to work a few extra hours in addition to their summer jobs,” said youth services officer Dayna DeBenedet.
“It allows them to take on short-term jobs with a flexible schedule and make some extra money,” she noted.
Young people can sign up with the Odd Job Squad at the SCCY (located inside the post office building).
They indicate their work experience and availability, and then are notified when a suitable job is available.
Examples of odd jobs include lawn work, clerical duties, painting, and flyer distribution.
The duration of the each job can vary from a few hours to a few weeks.
The Fort Frances SCCY will be promoting its odd job services at the following events:
•a free lemonade stand on Monday, July 6 from noon-3 p.m. p.m. at Canadian Tire, where Odd Job Squad information will be hand out;
•a flyer blitz around town on Tuesday, July 7 to generate awareness about the Odd Job Squad;
•an information booth on Wednesday, July 8 noon-3 p.m. at Wal-Mart; and
•a free barbecue (in conjunction with NCDS) on Friday, July 10 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at 304 Scott St.
Service Canada Centres for Youth link youth and employers. They provide employers or homeowners with a location to post job openings and young people with job postings, interview advice, résumé building, and job search strategies.
SCCYs also provide valuable information on health and safety in the workplace.
Homeowners or employers interested in using our services, and youth looking for summer employment, can visit the Fort Frances SCCY between 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
They also can call 274-7724, fax 274-7858, or e-mail dayna.debenedet@servicecanada.gc.ca
