ER visit procedure outlined

Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. would like to remind the public of the following information concerning emergency visits to La Verendrye Hospital here.
The receptionist and/or nursing staff in the emergency department cannot give out information to the public concerning the length of wait time expected to see an emergency physician.
They also cannot give the name of the physician on-call.
The nursing staff at La Verendrye cannot provide telephone advice, but the public is reminded to call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 to seek medical advice and speak with a registered nurse.
If you are coming to the hospital for a scheduled appointment or minor non-urgent condition, please check-in at the Front Street entrance.
If you are requiring immediate emergency attention, check-in at the Victoria Avenue (ramp) entrance.
Riverside communications officer Teresa Hazel noted Monday that while emergency visits have been up slightly of late, this reminder has not necessarily been spurred on by any particular incidents.
Rather, it is something Riverside has wanted to better promote for a while now.
“For example, with the two entrances now, some people aren’t sure,” Hazel noted.
“Someone with chest pains might come to the Front Street entrance and they really should be going to the ramp entrance and coming in because that’s in closer proximity to the emergency department,” she added.
If you have any questions about the above information, contact Lori Maki, VP, Clinical Services, at 274-4824.
